Who is Subbi?

  • Proud to be a citizen of the world!
  • Born in Insein, Burma (Myanmar) and raised in Thanjavur, Southern India.
  • Valedictorian in the University of Madras, India in B.A., M.A. and M.Sc. 
  • After obtaining a Ph.D. from the University of Madras, India, had the post-doctoral training in Montreal, Canada and Stockholm, Sweden.
  • Academic career started in Charleston, SC, USA and lasted 27 yrs. Professor Emerita from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Charleston, SC, USA. MUSC is multicultural and has faculty, staff, and students from all over the world.
  • Prestigious National Institutes of Health Research Career Development Award 1981-1986 and several Research grants spanning 30 years.
  • A pioneering researcher in Reproductive Immunology.
  • Munksgaard Award for being a Distinguished Investigator in Reproductive Immunology, Awarded by the American Society for Reproductive Immunology, June 1999
  • Besides English, fluent in Tamil and Hindi, with a smattering of German and French. 
  • “All the World is our Home” is my motto. “Spread your Wings with Subbi!” is my message to the global Toastmasters Family.

  • Region 8 Advisor, April 1, 2015 - June 3​0, 2016; 9 of 9 Districts in Region 8 Distinguished and higher, a record achievement in Toastmasters.
  • Region 8 Advisor, April 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017: 7 of 9 Districts President’s Distinguished and one Distinguished in the Distinguished clubs category.
  • Saved District 68 from being officially removed from existence, after which District 68 was Distinguished 2015 - 2016 and President’s Distinguished District 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 (Excellence in Leadership Award, for being Distinguished and President's Distinguished 3 years in a row).

  • April 2017: Was awarded District 58 Curtis Yant Mentor Award for making the greatest difference in the lives of others by supporting leadership through mentoring leaders
  • Initiated a dialogue between Hon'ble Nikki Haley, then Governor of South Carolina and District 58 Toastmasters headed by Kim Love, DTM to start prison clubs for prisoner rehabilitation, with blessings from Balraj Arunasalam, DTM, IPIP who was visiting us at that time. The first prisoner club was financed by the State of South Carolina. We now have 3 prisoner clubs, with more in the making with private donations.
